- Revision
- Made from two physical copies of the 1908 printing (Internet Archive darknightofsoul00sain, Duquesne University; and TheDarkNightOfTheSoul1908, University of Chicago, digitized by Google) and a third, independent OCR pass (tesseract 5) over the first copy's page images. Every word was collated in position across the three readings; where they disagreed the page image decided (222 places). Section numbers were checked against the print's numerals and every chapter boundary against the printed table of contents. Footnote markers were paired with their notes page by page (237 notes). Where the print numbers two consecutive paragraphs of Book II chapter 7 as "2.", the second is kept as a paragraph of section 2 so that the print's later numbers stand. Quotation marks are set typographically; closing quotes the print omits are not supplied. Running heads, folios and signature marks are left out. Book I chapter 11 is headed only "Stanza I." in the text; its title here is the one the print's table of contents gives.

- Published in London in 1908, so in the public domain in the United States as a work published before 1931. Lewis died in 1895 and Zimmermann in 1937, so the United Kingdom term has also expired. Not the E. Allison Peers translation (1935), which is not used here in any form. Dossier docs/sourcing/rights-dark-night-lewis.md.
