- Revision
- The Project Gutenberg #14553 text, made from a later reprint, was collated word by word, in position, against three OCR passes: the Internet Archive's text and tesseract 5 over this copy's page images, and the Internet Archive's text of a second copy from the same plates (IA baltimore-catechism-no.-3-kinkead-1921). The print decided wherever the transcription differed from it (its spellings offence, practise, fulfil, theatres among them); every doubtful place was read on the page images, and the questions the reprint rewrote or shortened were read whole from the page. This copy's scan lacks printed pages 110 and 111 (Q. 545 to Q. 556), which are read from the second copy, and trims some line ends, which the second copy supplies. Printer's errors corrected: god for God (Q. 477), ours for our (Q. 755), ressurrection (Q. 895), give for given (Q. 1133). Running heads and folios are left out. Quotation marks are set typographically.

- United States, English original. The latest notice is 1921 (Benziger Brothers), whose term has expired; the earlier matter is of 1885 and 1901. The later changes in this printing were published without a notice of their own and, under the law before 1978, entered the public domain on publication (founder ruling 2026-10-02, LS-326).
- Edition
- A Benziger printing after 1922 carrying the notices of 1885, 1901 and 1921: "Copyright, 1885, by J. L. Spalding", "Copyright, 1901, by T. L. Kinkead", "Copyright, 1921, by Benziger Brothers" (title page leaf n3 and notices leaf n4 of IA catechismofchris00unse, read by eye). Imprimatur John Cardinal McCloskey, April 6, 1885; approval of James Gibbons, April 6, 1885; Nihil obstat Remy Lafort and Imprimatur Michael Augustine, February 21, 1901; Nihil obstat Arthur J. Scanlan and Imprimatur Patrick J. Hayes, Archbishop of New York, June 29, 1921. The printing names Pius XI (Q. 536), so it was printed after his election in 1922. Its rules on the Communion fast (Q. 901 to Q. 908) and on fasting and abstinence (Q. 1337 to Q. 1344) are this printing's; the reprint that circulates online changed them.
