Thomas à Kempis was a German-Dutch priest, Augustinian canon regular, copyist, preacher, and spiritual writer associated with the Devotio Moderna. He spent most of his religious life at the monastery of Mount Saint Agnes near Zwolle, where he copied Scripture and composed works of spiritual formation centered on humility, recollection, conversion, the love of Christ, and the Eucharist.
