Saint Peter Chrysologus was bishop of Ravenna and a Doctor of the Church known for concise, rhetorically polished sermons. His preaching explained the creed, Incarnation, Gospel parables, fasting, prayer, almsgiving, and Christian moral life. The title “Chrysologus” means “golden-worded.” His surviving homilies provide a valuable window into fifth-century Latin pastoral preaching.
