Saint Faustus was a monk of Lérins and later bishop of Riez in Gaul. He wrote on the Holy Spirit, grace, free will, and the Christian life and participated in debates that followed Augustine’s anti-Pelagian writings. His account of grace was later criticized as insufficiently Augustinian, though labels such as “semi-Pelagian” can oversimplify the period. He remained respected in parts of the Western Church as an ascetic bishop and preacher.
